CurseForge Introduces A Brand New API For The Community

Overwolf, the guild for in-game creators, has released an innovative tool for mod creators to use in games like Minecraft, World of Warcraft and many more - the CurseForge API. This innovative tool allows creators to distribute their mods directly to their fans. It also opens an entire new set of possibilities for gamers to share their games online.

This new system will allow creators greater control over their work, especially when it comes to third-party distribution of their creations. Authors now have the option of giving their consent over whether they want to allow distribution outside of the CurseForge system, allowing them control on how their content is distributed and also to protect the monetisation of their mods using the Authors Rewards Points system.

Modders are not the only ones to make use of CurseForge API. The new agreement on terms of service opens up new possibilities for users who can utilize the system by bringing gaming community projects such as Discord bots, mod managers, and many more into the community which will allow the system to expand and support gamers in different ways.

CurseForge API already has 217 approved applications including 90 mod managers 42 bots and 25 analytics tools. There are also nine server-related tools general modding tools, and 11 modpack creation tools. The list is expected to grow exponentially as more users become familiar with the product. All power to the players

What does this mean for players then? Overwolf has created a standalone version for CurseForge to meet the requirements of players. The Windows standalone version, which is currently in alpha stage, is based on Electron and allows players to download and manage mods, add-ons and more in one convenient location. The currently in alpha versions of the standalone client supports World of Warcraft, with plans to include support for Minecraft and other games later on.

Linux users can download an alpha version the app for their operating system, and it currently only supports World of Warcraft. The beta version is in its early stages, so expect improvements and changes to be forthcoming in the near future. If you have questions or feedback, be sure to join the CurseForge Discord server and share your thoughts.

The app offers a variety of advantages for creators and players alike. It is easy to use and has a clean layout that lets you store all your mods and addons in one place. Mod authors earn 70 percent of the app's revenues which makes it a great way to support creators, whether players are using the free version the app or the subscription-based ad-free option.
